If you don’t really know what the Prohibition Era<\/a> was, it’s ok. I\u2019ll briefly tell you below but you can also learn about it during the Prohibition Pub and History Tour in New York!<\/p>\n

In short, it was a 13-year period between 1920 – 1933, where the production, commercialization, distribution and importation of alcoholic beverages was completely banned throughout the United States.<\/p>\n

But this did not mean that people stopped drinking or going out! What happened then was that the famous speakeasies started to pop up around the city!<\/p>\n

These speakeasy bars were strategically placed in basements, in the back area of butcher shops, and in the most unique locations. It obviously was not advertised, and you only knew about these bars mostly from word-of-mouth.<\/p>\n

Today, New York City is still the home of countless speakeasies<\/a>. While many are quite hard to find, others you can only go in with a special \u2018secret password\u2019. Pretty cool, right?<\/p>\n
